About the Artist: From Dinos to DeVine…

DeVine Fine Art is operated by Devin Birmingham, artist and owner.

Born in August of 1981, and raised in the southwestern region of Denver, Colorado, artwork started at a very young age, drawing dinosaurs as far back as kindergarten and 1st grade. As time passed, the pencil kept moving, and the subject of the drawings took on different identities (usually whatever was trendy to school-age boys at the time), then eventually started to be shaped by nature in the latter part of elementary school (thanks in small part to outdoor lab). This adoration of nature and the world around us would stay with me from this day on.

Middle school and High school introduced me to my first proper art classes, taking drawing, jewelry, ceramics, etc., though much of the technique and theory were already in place for me and much was review of concepts I already knew and practiced. Still, it allowed me to do what I loved - Draw.

My first years in college saw a pursuit in Fine Arts as a major, while working odds and end jobs of various trades along the way. Life happens…and art got put on hold for quite some time. I got married to my beautiful wife, I started a family, struggled with my own demons, I went through the gauntlet many artists do.

When the realization settled on me that I couldn’t work for another man’s retirement any longer, and the right time in my life presented itself, I picked up a paintbrush for the first time in what seemed like eternity. Graphite drawing had always been my medium of choice during younger years, but bringing art back into my life meant entertaining a desire to answer the beckoning call of painting. I had painted before, sure - but never with the passion that sprung anew from within me now.

Inspiration for my works derive from a unique blend of my own imagination, the brilliance of my fellow artists the world over, and immersing myself in nature whenever I can. Hiking within the Colorado Rockies amongst other landscapes I’ve visited proves to be ever formative to my love and understanding of the world I wish to depict on canvas. I nurture the emotion I pour into my paintings through the combination of listening to good music of various genres, and creating my own on my guitar. Walks in the deep of night sometimes awaken the part of my imagination that tries to remain dormant and I seek out additional inspiration anywhere it waits to be found.

And so it came to be that I created my own art studio, and I hope you will enjoy discovery in DeVine Fine Art. And perhaps, just perhaps, you may see something that calls to you to become part of your own collection on the journey.
